Litigation Associate Attorney – Healthcare & Civil Defense Focus

Oldham Law is a boutique litigation firm based in Louisville’s historic Butchertown neighborhood. Known for our investigative mindset and client-first strategies, we represent healthcare and corporate clients in complex civil litigation across Kentucky and the region.

Are you a sharp litigator with a passion for uncovering the truth and crafting compelling legal arguments? Oldham Law is seeking a driven associate attorney with 3–8 years of experience to join our dynamic litigation team. The ideal candidate is looking to grow in the position and will have superior written and oral communication skills as well as a command of both legal research and evidentiary analysis skills. Responsibilities:

  • Understand and use complex medical research and evidence to best represent and advocate for healthcare clients
  • Perform thorough and accurate legal research and draft effective briefs and case evaluation reports.
  • Conduct and defend depositions
  • Perform witness interviews and case investigations
  • Represent clients in hearings, oral arguments, and mediations.
  • Preparation of ADR and mediation materials to attempt pre-trial resolution of cases.
  • Help manage and grow an active top tier litigation group
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships throughout the litigation process.

Job Specifications:

  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience; healthcare defense preferred.
  • Licensed in Kentucky; admission in Indiana or Tennessee a plus.
  • Exceptional legal writing and research skills.
  • Strong command of evidentiary analysis and procedural rules.
  • Confident litigator who communicates clearly and thinks strategically.
  • Willingness to travel within Kentucky and occasionally to Tennessee.

LNC/Nurse Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC), or “nurse analyst,” is to analyze medical and nursing issues in professional liability cases and long term care litigation and to play a critical and supportive role to Oldham Law attorneys in the delivery of high quality legal services. This is a full-time position in the Louisville, KY office.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist attorneys and litigation paralegals with the evaluation of nursing home cases, long term acute care hospital cases, product liability cases and other cases as assigned. Responsibilities are performed under the supervision of the attorneys and are carried out based upon the discretion and preference of the attorneys and any established firm protocols for case management.
  • Our LNC/nurse analyst assists attorneys paying particular attention to the medical and nursing aspects of cases in litigation by obtaining, organizing and summarizing medical records and related documentation, preparing medical research and consults with expert witnesses, and assisting in preparing pleadings and client reports
  • Maintain organized and indexed medical records in digital or paper format as requested by supervising attorney
  • Create medical chronologies and narrative summaries of medical records
  • Medical and scientific literature research on current and historical studies to support defenses and challenge claims
  • Work with attorneys to determine defense strategy based on medical records and diagnoses
  • Coordinate the finding and hiring of expert witnesses
  • Determine, prepare and organize materials needed for expert witness review
  • Assist attorneys in preparation for expert witnesses, challenging opposing experts, and trial work

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed RN with a minimum of five years of clinical experience (i.e. in a healthcare setting)
  • Certification in legal nurse consulting is desired
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred
  • Prior experience as an LNC, nurse analyst, nurse paralegal or risk manager is preferred
  • Knowledge and proficiency in electronic medical records software
  • Strong written communication skills, including business writing and grammar
  • Excellent organizational skills and a team player
  • Ability to integrate into a fast-paced environment, manage deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • While this is a position for a nurse, it is a non-clinical position. Associated benefits include trading hands-on patient care and working within an ever-changing stressful healthcare environment for a regular schedule. Legal experience is not necessary, but research and writing skills should be excellent, and candidate should have a comfortable working knowledge of Outlook and Word and be willing to learn how to work within company designated software

Pay: $70,100.00 – $95,000.00 per year
